Crowdfund Nevada highlights a variety of campus projects and initiatives, allowing you to support areas on campus that mean the most to you. Every gift to Nevada, no matter the size, makes a difference and through Crowdfund Nevada, you can see the impact of your support.
Who is eligible to use Crowdfund Nevada?
Crowdfund Nevada is open to all faculty, students, and staff at the University of Nevada, Reno who are interested in raising money for University-based and affiliated initiatives and projects.
What kinds of projects are appropriate for Crowdfund Nevada?
Crowdfund Nevada seeks projects that will be compelling to donors and potential donors. Projects that highlight outstanding students, research initiatives, projects and programs. Your project should have a unique story with a clear need and impact. The best crowdfunding projects have specific goals and deadlines that create a sense of urgency.
What is required to launch a campaign?
Projects should have specific goals and be driven by tangible accomplishments. Projects must be affiliated with the University of Nevada, Reno. Funds raised for a project cannot be redirected to third-party, external charity or other non-profit.
Project Teams must have the following:
- A budget breakdown of how the funds will be spent.
- Project description, with images and video.
- Project ambassadors that will make-up your Project Team.
Project ambassadors will promote the project, provide project updates, and thank donors after the project is complete. Project Teams should consist of at least 3-5 ambassadors.
What are realistic goals for crowdfunding projects?
A project can have either a monetary or participation goal for their project. While every project is unique, we usually suggest monetary goals between $2,000 and $10,000.
How does a group promote their crowdfunding project?
It is up to the project teams to market their campaign and provide outreach. The larger the project team, the more likely the project is to succeed. Projects should be promoted through social media, email, and any other digital marketing tools such as department or college newsletters. The Crowdfund Nevada platform provides space for video, project descriptions, images, and project updates.
When can we launch a campaign?
Crowdfund Nevada is a year-round platform. Applications are reviewed weekly, a meeting will be set up to discuss your project and goals. Once a project is live on the platform, we recommend it stay live for 4-6 weeks. We recommend submitting your application at least 8 weeks prior to the date funds are needed by to ensure we are able to run a successful campaign.
How long does a campaign last?
The campaign will be live 4-6 weeks, and we recommend having 4 weeks of time prior to going live for planning and promotion, and then another 2-4 weeks after a campaign for following up and thanking supporters after the campaign.
What happens if a project is not fully funded?
All funds raised for a project via Crowdfund Nevada will be distributed into the previously identified project fund via the University of Nevada, Reno Foundation. The project group will have access to all funds raised, regardless if the goal is achieved or not.
How does a group access the funds we raise through Crowdfund Nevada?
The dollars you raise will be held in a fund established by the University of Nevada, Reno Foundation. Once your application is approved for Crowdfunding, a meeting will be set up with the Foundation staff to walk you through how to access the funds and all associated policies.
Is there a fee to raise funds on Crowdfund Nevada?
Currently there is no fee to fundraise for a project on the Crowdfund Nevada platform. There is a processing fee for all credit card transactions. The fee equal to the amount charged by the credit card processor will be deducted from your donation (approximately 3%). This does not affect the tax deductibility of your total gift, but it does reduce the total funds that will be distributed to the Crowdfunding initiative. Please take into account the 3% fee when establishing you project’s monetary goal.

Yes, Crowdfund Nevada is operated through the Office of Annual Giving, under the University of Nevada, Reno Foundation. The University of Nevada, Reno Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization (TIN: 94-2781749). All donors will receive a gift receipt from the University of Nevada, Reno Foundation via email or mail.
