2020 Nevada Debate
As Nevada Debate supporters and alumni team members, we have exciting news to share with you!
We are within reach of a major milestone…if we raise $14,000 in 2020, the Dr. Robert S. Griffin/W. Clark Santini Memorial Endowment, which directly supports the Nevada Debate Team, will top $250,000!
Each year, revenue from the Griffin/Santini Endowment underwrites scholarships and travel expenses so that our best debaters may duel in tournaments around the country. We are so close and every gift, no matter the size, makes a difference.
Already in 2020, the Nevada Debate Team has traveled to Salt Lake City, Orange County, and San Diego. We will be heading to the Northern California Forensics Championships in Chico, CA Feb 28 – March 1. We’ll be traveling back to San Diego at the end of March for the Pi Kappa Delta Nationals, and in April we’ll compete at the US University Debating Championships in Chicago. We’ve got an exciting spring semester ahead and your support will make a huge impact for our team members.
Your support also transforms lives. Debate builds character and confidence—here’s what Nevada alum and former Nevada Assembly Member Amber Joiner has to say about her debate experience:
Competing on the UNR Forensics Team was by far the most important educational experience of my life and ignited my passion to fight for positive change in our community. Forensics taught me invaluable skills that everyone needs, such as how to research and organize credible arguments, communicate clearly, and genuinely empathize with people from all walks of life and all sides of controversial issues.
Your generosity will help make it possible for the University of Nevada, Reno’s historically robust debate team to continue to compete at the national level. This 2019-20 season, Nevada ranked fourth during the first half of the season in the 68-member National Parliamentary Debate Association, trailing only the University of Pacific, Rice and UC Berkeley! Your support will not only help us reach our goal of $250,000, but will also directly impact the Nevada Debate Team, this year.
