Although the unprecedented nature of the COVID-19 crisis has prompted an outpouring of compassion, there remains an overwhelming need for support and care. Students from the School of Community Health Sciences are stepping up to support the Nevada COVID-19 Aging Network (Nevada CAN) to provide telehealth services for those Nevadans who are most at risk from illness and the effects of social isolation.
Nevada CAN is a partnership between the Aging and Disability Services Division, UNR School of Medicine’s Sanford Center of Aging, Nevada Senior Services, Nevada 2-1-1, and the UNR School of Community Health Sciences Dementia Engagement. Daily online telehealth support can help ease anxieties in these days of pandemic crisis and we invite you to join us in supporting our student volunteers.
Many students may be facing increased financial hardship while navigating this stressful, volatile situation. To provide assistance and show our appreciation for these students who are volunteering to give three months of telehealth services to elders in our community, we plan to offer $250 stipends. Please help us recognize and support these students and the Nevada CAN initiative by contributing to these stipends.
