The COVID-19 pandemic has adversely impacted our entire community and the performing and visual arts have suffered a particularly devastating blow.
With in-person performances and exhibitions being cancelled for the foreseeable future, our theaters, performance halls, and museums have lost a critical revenue source which has been deepened by the crippling budget cuts to federal and state funding for the arts and higher education. The risks posed by this loss of funding are substantial and there is fear that the performing and visual arts will never fully recover. As the educators of the next generation of artists, performers, and musicians, we are committed to not letting this happen and ask you to join us in supporting the arts to ensure we recover.
The School of the Arts at the University of Nevada, Reno has suffered losses upwards of $800,000 as a result of the current pandemic. These losses will restrict scholarship funding, likely reduce the number of students in our arts programs, and limit opportunities for students and faculty to hone their craft and build their reputation through participation in master classes, performances, and exhibitions. The economic uncertainty has even led some students to postpone higher education and question their future as artists. The challenges are great, but we are committed to responding through innovation and creativity to ensure the performing and visual arts remain strong for generations to come.
Please join us in sending a message to our students — the artists, performers, and musicians of the future — that we value their talents and contributions by making a gift to the School of the Arts Excellence Fund to move the Arts Forward. Your contribution will be used to fund student scholarships, enhance virtual programming, and expand access to the arts.
The arts bring us together in community, evoke emotions, and create dialogue around shared human experiences and the important issues of our time. Never before has this been needed more. We cannot imagine a future without the arts and hope we can count on your support. Thank you for your consideration of making a tax-deductible gift to the Arts Forward initiative.
