The School of Social Work is one of the fastest growing schools on the University of Nevada, Reno campus. With nearly 800 graduate and undergraduate students now enrolled, our School is dedicated to preparing culturally responsive social work practitioners and scholars who play a vital role in helping the people and communities we care about thrive and live resiliently. They have chosen this profession due to their passion for helping vulnerable populations, but now depend on financial aid and scholarships to achieve their educational goals. In order for our helpers to be able to assist the most vulnerable in our society, they must feel supported themselves. Please help our students thrive, by making a gift to the School of Social Work today.
Throughout the pandemic, our students have been resilient and ready to fulfill their calling as social workers. Our students have turned their field placements into opportunities to help by assisting social service and mental health agencies and organizations who have limited in-person services due to COVID-19 by developing and providing resource guides to vulnerable populations who rely on in-person services. Students have also been providing telehealth services in partnership with Delivering with Dignity to ensure families and seniors facing food insecurity receive deliveries of food, medications, and referrals to other needed healthcare resources. Our Social Work students stepped up during this time of crisis and we are beyond proud that they were honored with the Healthcare Heroes Volunteer Award for their response, along with their peers in other health sciences schools. When you make a gift to the School of Social Work, you’ll be recognizing the hard work of these aspiring social workers.
While they have stepped up to help others, many of our students today are facing their own economic hardships: from job loss and balancing family obligations with their studies and field placements; to concerns about health or physical safety, and navigating remote learning from less than optimal settings. More than ever, we seek to support our students through emergency funds, aid for undergraduate research, and to meet students’ evolving needs throughout this difficult period and ensure students receive maximum support for their education. Your gift will truly make an impact—supporting social work students pays it forward in more ways than many people realize.
