The College of Liberal Arts encompasses the disciplines of the arts, humanities, and social sciences. With more than 2,800 undergraduate majors, 350 graduate students, 250 faculty members and 45 staff members, the College of Liberal Arts plays a key role in the education of all students at the University of Nevada, Reno.
Committed to “elevating humanity,” the College of Liberal Arts teaches students to think critically, communicate with precision, and develop sensitivity to different cultures. All of the funds raised through the College of Liberal Arts Student Emergency Fund will be used to provide undergraduate and graduate students with critical support needed to continue their University education when they face challenges such as those associated with COVID-19.
First hand student experiences show how great the need is, here is the story of just one of our students.
“The pandemic took a massive financial burden on my family. My dad was working multiple jobs and lost one, my mother lost her job and I lost one of my jobs as well. We couldn't afford to send me to college, so we've been paying for schooling, housing, etc. all on loans already. Along with these losses, my car broke down and I tested positive for COVID. Any financial help from the University can ensure that I can at least get groceries or pay some bills while trying to piece together what we can for my future. With the uncertainty that comes with this pandemic, I am grateful for any assistance for the hope things will get better soon."
In many cases, even a small amount of support can be the difference between a student staying in college or dropping out. It can also make a difference in enabling a student to buy textbooks or meet basic needs in these precarious times. Thank you for joining us in helping our amazing students stay on track for earning a college education and a Liberal Arts degree that will make a positive difference for the rest of their lives.
