Did you know 24% of our Wolf Pack students reported experiencing food insecurity and have to make decisions between buying enough food or paying for other essentials, such as rent or tuition?
With the difficult reality of food insecurity, Pack Provisions aims to provide students with the necessary items to thrive physically and mentally by offering perishable and non-perishable food items, school supplies and hygiene products. For students without access to daily nutrition, food insecurity can hinder their ability to succeed in the classroom because simply put, it’s hard to study when you’re hungry.
Last academic year, Pack Provisions had 1,405 total visits. This year, we’re seeing double the usage as nearly two-thirds of students report their financial situation has become more stressful as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Pack Provisions exists through the generous support of the University, the Food Bank of Northern Nevada and donors like you. Your gift will help sustain Pack Provisions and help keep students healthy and fed.
Typically, Pack Provisions operates as a “stop by service” where users can visit our pantry and select food and other essential supplies. With COVID-19, students now have an option to request items on-line for pick-up or delivery from Campus Escort ride service. For students who are learning remotely, and not in the Reno area, they are able to request a direct deposit every two weeks, for groceries and essential supplies, students must provide receipts of what they purchased with the aid they received from Pack Provisions. It is important to us and the entire campus community to guarantee students still have access to food and necessities.
Your donation to Pack Provisions helps guarantee hunger is not a barrier to student success. Every gift, no matter the size, will positively impact a student’s life.
According to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, a $1 donation can fund three meals. Your minimum donation of $10 is enough to provide a student with one meal a day for an entire month.
This Giving Tuesday and year-end, please consider making a generous donation to Pack Provisions to take hunger off the table for struggling Wolfpack students.
