The Honors College – Life’s a journey. Honors makes it meaningful.
You’ll Never Journey Alone
The Honors College at the University of Nevada, Reno takes pride in our wonderful community of students, staff and faculty. Honors is so much more than just classes – it’s a conclave of like-minded people dedicated to and passionate about their respective fields of inquiry, about serving their communities, and about building The Honors College into the best it can be.
Honors College students are heavily engaged in professional development and research activities that require consistent and extensive engagement both inside and outside the University. These endeavors often incur additional costs such as equipment, travel, presentation, research and outreach imperatives. The Honors College Undergraduate Research Fund will help provide a competitively pursued, adjudication-based resource by which students may enhance their undergraduate honors journeys.
Here are stories from a few of our Honors students who express what undergraduate research has helped them achieve:
“As a STEM major preparing to go into the medical field, Undergraduate Research has allowed me to explore multiple kinds of sciences, such as volunteering in an ecology lab and an immunology lab. I am also currently working on my Community-Based Research Experience award, which involves no lab-work, and is a type of research I haven’t been exposed to in much depth through my coursework. I love that Undergraduate Research offers the opportunity to be involved in so many different kinds of research and for funded, hands-on projects.”– Samantha DiFulvio, Honors College Student
“Undergraduate Research connected me to two amazing mentors and with them I have been able to travel to conferences and present original data to other principal investigators around the country. Being able to be paid a salary through the Nevada Undergraduate Research Award let me focus on research as one of my only jobs, which let me be in the lab more and not worry about deciding if I had to work or if I could go into the lab to do research instead. As someone who got accepted to graduate school for their PhD, Undergraduate Research has been an integral part of my journey since the spring semester of my freshman year.” – Anutr Sivakoses, Honors College Student
“Engaging in research has pushed me out of the mindset of only being a student; I can become a contributor to new knowledge and gain experience in the field while only being a sophomore. I assist in research exploring the lived experiences. I assist in research exploring the lives experiences of LGBTQ+ people of color through the Pack Research Experience Program. As a Human Development and Family Studies student, this has allowed me to dig deeper into the burgeoning research of the social sciences and has enriched my understanding of intersectionality.” – Evan Tsuzaki, Honors College Student
