College of Agriculture, Biotechnology & Natural Resources 2021

In the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology & Nature Resources (CABNR), the focus is on the food, fuel, water and natural resources that keep our world moving. Our graduates and students are working to make food safer, the environment cleaner, communities healthier, and farms more efficient and sustainable. But many CABNR students themselves, need food assistance and additional support in order to stay, and succeed, in school.

Your support will make a difference.

Created last year, the CABNR Student Emergency Fund has assisted hundreds of students in immediate need, helping them purchase food, pay rent, buy textbooks and so much more. Throughout the past year, this fund has been extremely beneficial in assisting hundreds of our students with critical needs. A gift to this fund creates an immediate resource for students who are challenged with accessing basic necessities such as housing, food, medical care or other unanticipated needs.

Every gift to CABNR, no matter the size, will make a difference.

It may seem hard to believe, but nearly 25% of University of Nevada, Reno students are food insecure and lack consistent access to enough good-quality food for an active, healthy life. To help improve food security, the University’s Desert Farming Initiative (DFI) is partnering with food pantries, including the University's Pack Provisions, food security organizations, growers and volunteers to promote food system resiliency, reduce food waste and prepare the next generation of farmers for success.

DFI operates a year-round commercial farm, producing over 20 tons of fruits, vegetables and herbs each year. Your support is essential to help DFI double the amount of fresh produce it can grow to feed our most vulnerable and financially insecure students and community members.

At CABNR, our hope is for a future where no one has to choose between basic necessities and going to school, and consequently, a future where higher education will be an opportunity more accessible to all. Your support to the CABNR Dean’s Fund, Student Emergency Fund or Desert Farming Initiative will help ensure our hope becomes reality.
